We had a Rubik’s Cube social on Saturday in the Taekwondo Club. Everyone had to wear four items of clothing which could be swapped easily: each original item being red, yellow, green, and blue. By the end of te night, you had to aim to have the four items as one colour! As I had been really busy, I could only get 2 T-shirts, which were yellow and blue, neither of them were exchanged! I arrived a bit late in the South Seas in Broomhill, and then proceeded to the Nottingham House, where I bumped into Hanna, who I hadn;t seen for some time, so we chatted for ages, so I followed the Taekwondo club on later and met them in Pop Tarts. It was a great night, despite having 1 pint of Foster’s, 3 pints of Deuchars, and 2 VKs!

CF went campaigning in Ecclesfield on Saturday as part of Spencer Pitfield’s campaign in Stocksbridge & Penistone. We had a large turn-out, not as large as we were expecting, but larger than groups in previous years (which is great for my legacy!!!!). We delivered newsletters from 10.30 - 3, and then returned to a local hotel for a drink and some food, with me being he only one getting an alcoholic drink to the amusement of everyone includig myself!

I visited Conservative Central Office (CCHQ) on Thursday afternoon with Sheffield Conservatives. Joe and Jack were 2 other CF members on the visit. I arrived about 30 minutes early, but the others arrived late due to their train unfortunately breaking down at Wellingborough! The day consisted of several interesting lectures from different people who worked at Central Office and a tour. We returned to Sheffield in the evening after quite a busy afternoon.

I, and the DDSF, had a little contre-temps with the head of the Socialist Students on Wednesday afternoon. We were rounding off the DDSF meeting, and exactly on 6.30, the socialist put his head round the door asking if we had nearly finished, and we said we were. So, we started to get up and head towards the door, although a couple asked if they could put their e-mails on the mailing list, so quickly wrote their addresses down. At 6.31, the socialist came in saying “Oh, it’s okay guy, just have a chat and all, don;t worry about us…”, etc.. So, I apologised (as you do!), and explained it was the disabled students’ committee, and he cut over me saying “I don;t care what group you are, we’ve booked the room!”. We were still coming out, but the socialists forced their way past without a care in the world that they were pushing past a couple of DDSF members who have mobility-impairments.

So much for the socialist idea of being equal and being nice to all!

I went home overnight on Wednesday as I was going to Conservative Central Office on Thursday afternoon. I had a manic afternoon, with Chamber Choir from 4.15 - 6, DDSF from 6 - 6.30, after which I had to run to the station to catch the train home.

We had a debate in CF this week with the motion “This house believes Thatcherism is dead”. Matt spoke for the proposition, and I spoke for the opposition, so spoke second. When I spoke, I stood up, took off my DDSF hoodie to reveal the Che Thatcher T-shirt underneath! I then spoke about privatisation, taking power away from the Unions, and remembering the Falklands War. The opposition won!

I went eith my flatmates to Population again this week, as Tody from Neighbours was there. I, personally, don;t watch Neighbours, but my flatmates do, and they met Tody, as they had done with Alex last week! I bumoed into Katherine there as well, who also met Tody!

I’ve been to quite a few Union nights this year, and this week added 2 to the total! On Monday, I went to Population with the Taekwondo club and my flatmates, and Alex from the Apprentice was there. On Saturday, I went to Pop Tarts with my flatmates and we stayed until just before 3am, when it closes! Pop Tarts was a loud event: my ers did not fully recover until Monday morning!

The first Chamber Choir rehearsal was on Wednesday, at a later time from when I was in it before. It is now being run by Prof. Simone as Martin Hindmarsh has left. We are singing some Schubert and a Wagner arrangement, both of which are lovely pieces of music! I had to leg it afterwards so I could get to DDSF to chair the final 30 minutes of it!

We held our first CF social on Tuesday at the University Arms as a Wine& Cheese Evening. I went and bought the cheese from Sainsbury’s earlier in the day, but was concerned whether it would all go. Thankfully, I only took two pieces back home after the event, telling my flatmates to have any if wanted it!

The evening was a great success. We maintained the 20 member turn-out, which has not happened for the last 2 years I was a member of the society! Spencer Pitfield, the prospective Parliamentary candidate for Stocksbridge & Penistone came to talk, giving an introduction to the constituency and the campaign, and asked members if they could help out. Many were very enthusaistic, which has also not been seen for some time!
